Invision Power Services, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of IP.Content 2.1.2

This is a maintenance release for our IP.Content application. IP.Content is our community content management system for IP.Board allowing you to publish information about your community and full web pages through your IPS-powered community.

This maintenance release fixes various issues reported in version 2.1.1. There are no new features however enhancements to existing features include:

Some javascript has been added to external widgets better support resizing the iframe if you are linking across domains
You can add &method=div to the external widgets script URL IP.Content provides to embed the HTML output directly into the page, instead of serving it through an iframe

IP.Content 2.1.2 Released

IP.Downloads 2.3.0 and IP.Nexus 1.0.3 Released

Invision Power Services, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of IP.Downloads 2.3.0!

IP.Downloads is our community file management platform for IP.Board allowing you and your members to upload files for sharing in an organized category listing with permissions, version control, and more. Changes and new features in this version include:

Improved Notifications: Notifications have been greatly improved in IP.Downloads 2.3.

As of IP.Downloads 2.3, users can be notified of:

New comments to files
New file updates
New files in categories
Broken file reports for their own files
File acceptance/denial by a moderator

Moderators can be notified of:

New files pending approval
Broken file reports

Liking Files: The new ‘Like’ system from IP.Board has been implemented into IP.Downloads 2.3, consolidating favorite and watch functionality using the central Like feature of IP.Board.

Improved Comments: The new ‘Comments’ system from IP.Board has been implemented into IP.Downloads 2.3, improving the general user experience when reading and interacting with comments, as well as improving the moderator experience managing comments.

Search Improvements: Support for searching through Sphinx has been added to IP.Downloads 2.3, and for those not using Sphinx, proper MySQL fulltext search support has been added to IP.Downloads. The search results interface has been overhauled to provide more information, and some new filtering and ordering options have been added to the advanced search form for IP.Downloads.

Sharing and Facebook: The IP.Board share strip has been added to IP.Download files, as has the Facebook Like plugin (for those utilizing Facebook integration).

Custom Field Formatting: You can now define how to format custom fields when displayed on the file information page. This allows you to force fields that should contain a link to be hyperlinked, or to show an image based on a selection in dropdown, for example.

View Downloaders: You can now allow users on the public side on a per-group basis the ability to view who has downloaded each file.

Change File Owner: You can now change the owner of a file from the front end. Super moderators will have this ability automatically, and you can control on a per-moderator basis which of your IP.Downloads moderators have this permission.

Latest Files Hook: A board index hook has been added to show you the latest files in IP.Downloads on your board index.

Better Submission Control: Users can now specify which screenshot they submit is the “master” or “primary” screenshot. Users can now supply a file version number and a changelog for their submissions. Screenshots will now be cropped to a square size, rather than a proportionally downsized image.

Changelog/Version Support: The file number and changelog submitted with files is backed up with each version, so users can view a full changelog of each file (when the submitter provides this information).

Downloads Portal: A new (optional) homepage has been added acting as a portal to your IP.Downloads installation. You can quickly see what’s new, what’s popular, any featured files, top downloaded files (or, when using IP.Nexus integration, top free and top paid files), and much more.

Overhauled Interface: The interface for IP.Downloads has been overhauled from top to bottom, providing for a much cleaner and sleeker experience.

Moderator Options: Files can now be featured (one file at a time) – the featured file is shown on the downloads portal. Files can now also be pinned and unpinned. Better indications are shown for

Miscellaneous: You can mark all categories as read from the IP.Downloads index page; you can now control on a per-group basis who is able to report files; you can now ban individual users from submitting files. Parent categories that only contain subcategories will now show the files from it’s subcategories within the parent category view.

Server Requirements

As IP.Nexus deals with financial transactions we wish to do everything we can to ensure the security of your community and business. To further this goal, IP.Nexus source will be encoded using Zend Guard and Ioncube. This means that your server will need the appropriate PHP capabilities installed to run IP.Nexus. You can download our system requirements script which will check your server for Zend Guard encoding support.

Release Notes

IP.Nexus requires IP.Board 3.1.3 and will not install on prior versions.
The enhanced IP.Downloads integration will not be available until IP.Downloads 2.3.0 is released.
When installing IP.Nexus you must set your FTP client to upload files in binary mode. If you would prefer one of our technicians to handle the installation for you – please send in a support ticket.
Some users who have contacted technical support and had patches for any bugs applied to their live site may experience an error message in the upgrade process. This can be safely ignored – the upgrader will provide a “Continue anyway” button.

How to Access

Just visit the IPS Marketplace and make sure you are logged in with the same email address and password you use to login to the IPS Client Area. This will automatically recognize your account and allow you access to all the free listings in the IPS Marketplace and allow you to purchase any paid listings.

We are developing an IP.Board application that will allow you to browse the IPS Marketplace from inside your IP.Board’s AdminCP! IP.Board 3.1.4 Released

Invision Power Services, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of IP.Board 3.1.4

IP.Board 3.1.4 is a maintenance release that fixes issues reported in the previous version and also adds required support for the new application updates scheduled to be released over the next few weeks. We were forced to release patches to 3.1.3 to address a few unforeseen issues with updates to IP.Board so it would be compatible with our new application releases. Version 3.1.4 is a version-number increment so all of our customers can be sure they are fully up to date with those patches. In addition to the 3.1.3 patches it also contains a few other bug fixes and small changes however there are no skin template, CSS, or language changes.

Downloading

You can download IP.Board 3.1.4 in the client area. You might also read our general upgrading instructions for our software.

If you are already running IP.Board 3.1.3 you can also download an upgrade pack in the client area that contains only those files changed between 3.1.3 and 3.1.4 which allows for a faster upgrade process.

Support Note

As with any release, please expect support response times (particularly for install/upgrade requests) to be longer than usual for the next few days. Refer to your license terms for support response SLAs. The upgrade pack for 3.1.3 to 3.1.4 makes upgrades much faster and easier so, whenever possible, you may wish to consider taking advantage of that option.

If your community is critical in nature and even the slightest delay in support services would impact you then you may wish to wait until a future version to use IP.Nexus.

IP.Subscriptions and IP.Nexus cannot be installed together. If you have IP.Subscriptions installed already, IP.Nexus will allow you to convert your data.
The Getting Started Guide contains useful information on how to set up IP.Nexus and is recommended everyone who will be using IP.Nexus reads it and other documentation carefully.
There is a known issue with IP.Board 3.1.3 which may affect the advertisements feature. If advertisements are not showing or not cycling properly, see this article.
If you are using MS-SQL, you need to download and upload to your site the latest drivers before you install IP.Nexus.

The easy part is now out of the way. I have installed IP.Board and IP.Content. For testing and initial purposes this is considered a testing license. There is an Admin and Guest account which people can use to post comments and access the site. No one will be able to register. Once I’m done with this project I’ll transfer the active IP license over to it and go live with the site.

At this point we have the base IP.Board and IP.Content with the demo article system. Now originally when I started using IP.Content when it first came out, that was not available. I do have to say it was definitely something that was missing from a base install of IPC. With it in there, just by itself the article system does have the makings of having the base operations of something like Wordpress. You have an article (blog) system with comments, categories and an interface on the front-end instead of having to do everything within the ACP (Admin Control Panel) which I initially did the first time I used IPC.

IPB Wrapper or to Not IPB Wrapper, That is the Question…

The main decision at this point is to decide whether to use the IPBWrapper or not for the IP.Content. I’ve played with an used both of them previously. The advantage of the IPB Wrapper is that I can offer multiple skin/theme options to users. That will carry over to IP.Content. Without using the wrapper I can’t really do that easily. That kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a seamless, integrated site if they look different.

Not using the IPB Wrapper I have found it easier in my opinion to make adjustments to IP.Content pages. In the past I’ve had issues with settings on the IP.Board side effecting certain id/classes on the IP.Content side. That can be over-ridden but it does make skinning in my opinion sometimes cumbersome.

Since this is going to be initially for game site, mainly Trading Card Games and some miniatures. I do have the advantage of knowing the client base. Gamers like to personalize and customize. Without using the IPB Wrapper I won’t have that as an easy option.

For now I’ll use the IPB Wrapper. At least for now.
